Kea‘iwa Heiau ‘Awa Ceremony

The Royal Order of Kamehameha I occupied a spot of honor on the hala mats during a formal Hawaiian ‘awa ceremony held as part of the Healing Our Spirit Worldwide conference. The ‘awa ceremony was conducted by members of Papa Ola Lokahi, and chaired by Judge Thomas Ka’ulukukui.
Mamo Hawai’i Richard Keopuhiwa of Chapter 8 and Mamo Hawai‘i Blaine Fergerstrom of Chapter 1 represented the Royal Order of Kamehameha I. Brother Keopuhiwa welcomed the gathered delegates and drank ‘awa in the name of the Ali‘i Nui.
This conference, held once every four years, gathers indigenous leaders from around the world at a different host site. Hawai‘i was chosen this year. The conference is being coordinated by Kumu Hula Vicky Holt Takamine.
